Athlete of the Week: Cullen McDonald

The Northwestern State University demon’s baseball crew went head to head against the Louisiana State University Tigers in the 2018 D1 Baseball championship. After losing in the elimination bracket Northwestern State University played LSU again and won with a score of 3-1.

Senior right-handed pitcher Cullen McDonald has been on an outright tear since the season began. Helping his group to a 12-9 record and 5-4 in conference play. He’s posted season highs in strikeouts just as well in IP value of 7.2 against in state rival Louisiana State University. Against LSU he held the baseball crew to one go through 7.2 innings which was their first win against the tigers since 2011.

“My changeup has been one of my worst pitches and after all the hard work and effort in the fall, it’s turned out to be a standout amongst my best pitches this season,” said McDonald.

Cullen has the second most in innings pitched on the team with 27.1; he is likewise second in the group with an ERA of 1.65. Cullen says his objective is “to win conference again and make it back to the tournament.”

The next home game is April second against Mississippi Valley State.
