Visitors to Natchitoches’ downtown area can now rent a ride in the city’s latest attraction, The Cane River Queen river boat.

Guests can choose between a one-hour matinee cruise or an hour-and-a-half cruise. The matinee is offered Friday to Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. The hour-and-a-half cruise is offered Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Friday to Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

During the cruise, passengers will pass by a number of historic sights in Natchitoches including: the Beau Jardin water feature, Fort St. Jean Baptiste site, the Roque house and the home of the Steel Magnolias movie.

NSU students receive a $3 discount for adult cruise prices.

“I’ve seen the boat out and it’s intriguing,” Avery Tibbetts, NSU freshman, said. “I’d be excited to try it.”

Aside from its weekly cruises, Cruise Managing Director Rhonda Boyette said the boat will also be available to rent for private events. The base price to rent the boat is $1250 for up to fifty people.

While food and beverages are available to purchase on every cruise, Boyette said catering and the bar will be available during the private charters as well.

Boyette said the city has been working since August to get the Cane River Queen ready. Its first official charter happened the first week of April.

The cruises are led by captain and owner Paul Lohr and can be booked at caneriverqueen.com.
