Chamber and Concert choirs to perform

Chamber+and+Concert+choirs+to+perform

Students and community members have several upcoming opportunities this week to attend concerts by students in the School of Creative and Performing Arts. While the NSU Chamber Orchestra, Opera Theatre and Horn Choir performances have already passed, audiences are welcome to catch choir performances on Oct. 25 and 26.

Chamber and Concert choirs will perform in Magale Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. for their respective performances. Audiences will be treated to unique musical selections at each concert.

Similar to other branches of the department, choirs have been working since August to perfect the music audiences will hear. When asked what audiences can expect at each performance, choir members gave as little detail as possible, speaking of the selections broadly.

A soprano in Concert Choir, Daniela Salas described the musical selections as involving popular pieces audiences would recognize and some in foreign languages.

Audiences of the Chamber Choir concert can also expect “a very interesting repertoire,” tenor Carlomagno León said.

“I can assure you that it is going to be a diverse concert, both language and music-wise,” he said.

Choir members have shifted focus in rehearsal as the concerts approached. They are now placing emphasis on how each individual part of a performance relates to the larger musical concept of the songs featured.

León is preparing for his first large performance with the choir. He explained practices have continued to increase in intensity the closer the performance gets.

“The entire choir has had to focus more on listening [to] each section, matching sounds and, of course, watching the conductor,” León said.

Salas described how nerve-racking practices have been but said she and other choir members are ready for the performance.

“We work twice as hard to make everything perfect,” she said. “I’m excited to show the audience how hard [we] have been working for this concert and all the things we have achieved.

“I just want the audience to enjoy each one of the performances that [CAPA] choirs have been putting together since the beginning of the semester…” León said.

Audiences are also invited to attend the NSU Men’s and Women’s Choral Concert Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Hall.

Admission for these concerts is free. More information about CAPA events is available at capa.nsula.edu
