Jacobs to represent NSU at Miss Louisiana

Northwestern State University named a new Miss Northwestern Lady of the Bracelet last week: Aly Jacobs, the second runner-up in last semester’s pageant, has been named as the successor to Erika Jarlock.

Jarlock is no longer enrolled at NSU and is now unable to fulfill her duties or represent the university at the Miss Louisiana Pageant after being crowned last semester.

“Of course, we’re sadden that [Jarlock] is not able to continue with the bracelet and the tradition, but she will forever be our 60th Lady of the Bracelet,” said Yonna Pasch, director of the pageant. “She will still be in the record books as Miss Northwestern Lady of the Bracelet 2018, but then we’ll have a second.”

Jacobs has picked up where Jarlock left off last semester with eyes prized on the Miss Louisiana Pageant in June.

“Aly has been a trooper,” Pasch said. “She has stepped up and has started to do everything she needs to do to get ready [for this summer].”

Since dawning the bracelet and crown, the former Phi Mu president has been preparing for next month’s Miss Louisiana State Meeting, where she will meet other contestants and participate in community service projects.

“We have all the confidence in the world that she’s going to represent the university as well as Erika would have,” Pasch said.

Jacobs is enthusiastic for her upcoming role.

“I’m excited about representing this wonderful institution as the 60th Miss Northwestern State Lady of the Bracelet and look forward to competing this summer at Miss Louisiana,” she said.

Jacobs’ platform is “‘I Can Too’ Empowering Young Women to Explore Male Dominated Fields,” stemming from an article released in Fortune magazine noting women hold about 6 percent of CEO positions in Fortune 500 companies.

There is no public crowning or announcement planned as of right now. However, the University did release the news on Friday.
