Turpin suffers from litter
Harry “Rags” Turpin Stadium, home of Northwestern State University of Louisiana football, has become a landmark in the city of Natchitoches and around northwest Louisiana. Turpin Stadium hosts a variety of events supporting the Natchitoches community, such as Natchitoches Central High School football games, the Spirit of Northwestern’s annual Classic On The Cane marching contest and much more.
While Turpin is an important part of NSU, students and fans can fall victim to leaving trash outside of the trash cans in and around the stadium simply by not being aware of their belongings.
“People leave Turpin and forget that they have trash that belongs to them,” Lucy Stark, business administration major, said. “It’s like they expect someone to pick up their trash after they leave.”
It can be as simple as throwing away potato chip bags or empty popcorn boxes, but cleaning up after each other can help Turpin and Northwestern State as a whole become more Earth-friendly.
“I think NSU is blessed to have such a beautiful campus and we should do everything we can as students to keep our campus and facilities clean,” Nick Cooksey, a sophomore history major, said. “Turpin is home to great games and provides students with a fun and exciting atmosphere.”
Some students believe students that participate in Student Government Association should provide resources and encourage fellow students to throw their trash away.
“I believe there is a litter issue all across campus, including Turpin,” said Timothy Holdiness, a senior biology major. “SGA should be proactive and put more trash cans across campus and at sporting events, as well as encourage students to keep our beautiful campus clean.”
