Northwestern State University of Louisiana’s student run radio station, KNWD hosted their second annual Battle of the Bands on Feb. 22 at the Seven Oaks Stage. The artists that performed competed to win a spot on the 2024 DemonFest line up.
This event is an opportunity for up-and-coming bands and artists to make their name known to the NSU community. Although, this year was a little different from last year, there were two spots that needed to be filled for the lineup. The NSU students had the opportunity to vote for their favorite competitor. While the other spot was selected by KNWD staff.
The first performing band, This is Living, lead singer Jordan Bevels explained the reasoning for forming the band. “We kind of really only formed the band for this but I definitely think we’ll be around a lot longer now.” This band performed a total of five different songs during the event. Bevels revealed his excitement for performing in the Battle of the Bands, “This is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do and so I was excited when it came along.”
This year’s DemonFest on Apr. 6 at the Seven Oaks Stage will be a collaborative event with KNWD and the University Programing Council. KNWD will oversee helping the artists and the graphic design of the festival. UPC oversees planning and setting up the event and contacting vendors.
NSU students and community members will be able to see the winners they chose at the Battle of the bands at DemonFest performing on stage. The band and artist performing will be This is Living and Cxmmiio.
