The manhunt over the last inmate that escaped the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center over the weekend ended in Opelousas today as the U.S. Marshals Service caught Seankalyn Chatman, police said.
The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tony Moran said Chatman is now in the process of being transported back to Natchitoches.
Chatman, 26 of Natchitoches, along with Johnny Williams, 22 of Natchitoches, and Malakhi Nathaniel Gallant, 21 of South Carolina, escaped the detention center on Sunday, authorities said.
Moran said the inmates were seen escaping from the razor wire fence and running along the Natchitoches Bypass.
Later on Sunday, police announced they had caught Williams and Gallant in the city of Natchitoches, according to a Facebook post by NPSO.
Police also said two people were arrested in addition to Williams and Gallant for accessory after the fact.
The identities of the additional two people arrested have not been released.
Police said an internal investigation regarding how the inmates escaped is under investigation.
Chatman was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer, probation violation, flight from an officer, narcotics violations and traffic charges.
Williams was initially charged with principal to second-degree murder and illegal carrying of a firearm.
Gallant was initially charged with flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of a highway, reckless operation of a vehicle, other traffic charges and outstanding warrants out of South Carolina and DeSoto Parish.
The Current Sauce left a message for Chatman’s attorney that wasn’t returned in time for this story’s deadline. It could not be determined whether the other suspects had attorneys yet to comment on their behalf.
