Ahead of tropical storm Francine approaching the state, Northwestern State University of Louisiana announced on Tuesday campus closures across all campuses for Wednesday.
Tropical storm Francine is expected to make landfall on Louisiana’s coast on Wednesday as a Category 1 Hurricane, according to KALB Meteorologist Jake Lambright.
Classes at NSU’s campuses are expected to resume on Thursday, if weather allows, according to a campus memo sent via email.
“When it comes to Francine the impacts to Natchitoches Parish are expected to be pretty limited at best,” Lambright said. “The winds will pick up a little bit and that will be noticeable.”
The memo also stated “residence halls will remain open, and dining services will continue with a modified schedule.” NSU dining services announced via Instagram that Iberville Dining Hall will be open tomorrow for brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and for dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Chick-fil-A will also be open on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The tropical storm is expected to bring wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph, Lambright said. However, he said this represents a low weather threat to the area.
“Since the storm is going to be far enough to the east, I’m not expecting any tornado impact or tornado threat in Natchitoches parish,” Lambright said.
For campus issues during the storm contact University Police at (318) 357-5431 or 911.
Edit for Clarity 9/10 This article has been update to add the word Wednesday on the first paragraph to make clear what day the campus will be closed.
