Each fall semester, Northwestern State University welcomes the student body to campus with Demon Days, a 42-day series of fun events from August to December. The events include Color Chaos, New Student Convocation, Putt for Parking, Get Loud at the Library, Midnight Cereal Bar and more.
No matter the student’s classification, Demon Days offers the opportunity to get to know fellow students and have fun with the entire campus. Events like Make-a-Friend Social, Speed Friending and Roommate Trivia give students the chance to destress from their first weeks of classes and meet new friends.
Devin Stacy, a junior communication major, considers Color Chaos to be the most memorable Demon Days event. “Color Chaos was a really great ‘welcome to college’ experience, not just for new students but returning students as well,” Stacy said. “It was really fun getting to throw paint on future friends and strangers alike. It’s a quick and easy way to make friends on campus.”
Santana-Lin Lewis is a senior biology major who has participated in Color Chaos twice and loves running around slinging paint. She values Demon Days for the exposure that students get to the rest of NSU’s campus. “I think Demon Days is important because it not only gives freshmen the chance to do fun things, but the opportunity to meet upperclassmen and make friends.”
Demon Days has been a staple at NSU for many years, with each semester’s list of events growing to include more unique opportunities for having a good time outside of the classroom. This year’s schedule brought new events like Spooky Cookies with SGA, KNWD and NAACP Silent Disco, Pause For Paws, Karaoke Break and Frightened Fall Fest, all of which were a hit with students.
Every student at NSU is encouraged to participate in as many Demon Days events as possible, some even using lists to keep track of the numerous events they attend. “Go to Demon Days,” Lewis said. “It really helps, especially if you’re a student from several hours away.”
The first semester of each year offers an array of challenges for many students; some find it difficult to make friends, while others struggle in classes. Throughout this tough time, NSU’s Demon Days offer every student the chance to escape the stresses of their semester by coming together with a community of fellow students to enjoy their time on campus.
