Color Chaos is a timeless tradition that continues to live on at Northwestern State University. Every year, students gather at the field behind Turpin Stadium to prepare for an all-out paint war against their fellow students.
Color Chaos is one of, if not the most, recommended event for freshmen. Faith Davis is a junior nursing major who has been to Color Chaos every year she’s attended NSU. When Davis went as a freshman, she didn’t know anyone who was going, but once there, she recognized someone from her anatomy class earlier that day. After hanging out with her at Color Chaos, Davis said they’ve been friends ever since.
This year, Davis had the opportunity to help work the event through Demon VIP. “It’s awesome seeing people I’ve grown up with that are just now coming to NSU and seeing them have a good time by getting involved,” Davis said.
Raylon Bailey is a freshman biology major who enjoyed throwing paint at people and making connections during Color Chaos. “Sometimes I would see another person and we would point at each other and then just give each other a hug to transfer paint,” Bailey said. “Connecting with other people may have been my favorite part.”
Reily Washington is a freshman nursing major whose favorite memory from the event was getting paint thrown in her mouth. “I know usually only freshmen go to the Demon Days events, but the seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen all came together for Color Chaos,” Washington said. “It was really cool getting to see everybody.”
Color Chaos can be intimidating to some, but “don’t be scared, because there are probably other people that are nervous too,” Bailey said. “Just get out there, be yourself and be respectful of other people’s space.”
Color Chaos is an NSU tradition that doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon. For students on the fence about participating in Color Chaos, just know that the “memories are definitely worth the mess,” Emma Miller, former Potpourri writer, said.
