Move-In Day kicked off the semester at Northwestern State University and got residential life moving and grooving as students traveled to Natchitoches in preparation for the fall semester and the years to come. As students return for another year, the incoming freshmen mark a milestone as they move to campus for the first time.
Throughout the week, the residence halls of Columns, Varnado and University Place had a steady flow of traffic as students hauled their belongings alongside friends, family and Demon VIPs.
Tori Charrier, a sophomore radiologic technology major, and her emotional support dogs were thrilled to move back in with her best friend at Columns. With the help of demon volunteers, Charrier was able to unload and unpack in about 20 minutes and spent the majority of her day decorating. “The decorating and rearranging took about eight hours. Me and my roommate collaborated with our different styles and made our house feel like a home,” Charrier said. She and her roommate spent the rest of the day enjoying their room while watching movies and playing card games.
Columns’ residents were not the only ones moving in that week. Trenton Steele is a freshman psychology major who made his way to Varnado and was soon helped by a team of volunteers. Together, they hauled all his belongings up the stairs in less than 15 minutes. “The helpers carried a few bags for me, which was very helpful and saved me a few trips,” Steele said.
At the same time, University Place was greeting its new and ready residents. Samantha Jordan is a freshman kinesiology major who moved in with the help of her family and best friend. “It was efficient, and we got stuff done pretty quickly. I feel like the longest part was probably cleaning the room,” Jordan said.
Once she was done moving in, Jordan and her guests enjoyed the day together until they finally departed in the evening. “I wasn’t feeling a whole lot, I was mostly just happy and ready to start,” Jordan said.
Even though Columns, Varnado and University Place had their own move-in experiences, each residential building was able to provide a smooth and successful move for all students. NSU came prepared with Demon VIPs, RAs and athletic teams to accommodate students around campus for their move-in day. This student body exceeded expectations in making Move-In Day a noteworthy experience for the entire campus.
