Each fall, students of Northwestern State University are allowed to elect two of their fellow students to the positions of Mr. and Miss NSU, one of the highest honors a student can receive at NSU.
Hannah Davis was named the 2024 Miss NSU and Terrell Woodard Jr. was named the 2024 Mr. NSU.
Davis is a senior psychology major, vice president of SGA and president of the Eta Chi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
“I was so surprised and shocked to win Miss NSU. It’s something that I’ve been wanting since my freshman year, but I never thought that I would be able to receive this position because it’s such a huge honor,” Davis said.
“To me, receiving this honor means that I’ve made my mark on this campus and others can see that,” Davis said. “It’s mind-blowing because it means that people took the time to notice what I’ve done. It’s such a blessing, and it has made me feel so seen and appreciated.”
Davis is thrilled to find her place within the legacy of Miss NSU. “My favorite part is building those bonds and being able to meet the old Miss NSUs. Being able to hear their experiences has been amazing,” Davis said. “I love relationships, and being able to build new relationships has been the best part of being Miss NSU.”
Woodard is a senior biology major, president of the Student Government Association, member and vice president of the Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., southwest regional assistant and a co-founder of the Black Male Alliance.
“Mr. NSU, to me, is the culmination of all the work and hours that I’ve put into being an active student at NSU,” Woodard said. “I came in freshman year fairly shy and I slowly started to creep into organizations. From there, I got more and more involved and now I truly feel like I’ve made a difference. I’m so happy that my peers were able to see the work I’ve done. Mr. NSU is the honor of a lifetime.”
Woodard is also honored to find himself amongst the Mr. NSUs of the past and does not take his new position in their ranks lightly. “Being able to be a representation to those around you is amazing,” Woodard said. “Having people that mean a lot to you saying they’re proud of you is something I wouldn’t trade for the world.”
Woodard and Davis were together when the results were announced, allowing the two to celebrate their newfound victory together. “When they announced Mr. and Miss NSU, [Davis] and I were in an SGA meeting next to each other and it was a whirlwind of emotions,” Woodard said. “There was a lot of happy screaming and a lot of crying.”
Woodard and Davis have been good friends since freshman year, working through the ranks of NSU’s many organizations together until they gained the positions of SGA president and vice president. “We’re really great friends, so it’s been a great opportunity to grow with her in a different avenue,” Woodard said. “It’s been a great way to really show that we’re members of the student body and are excited to see what else is to come.”
