Mr. March of Dimes is an annual pageant hosted by Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority at Northwestern State University. The pageant serves to raise money for Tri Sigma’s philanthropy, March of Dimes, which is an organization that funds life-saving research and supports families in NICUs facing premature births. The funds raised at Mr. March of Dimes go towards helping these mothers and newborns, and this year the event raised over $4000.
The pageant offers male students on NSU’s campus the opportunity to show off a hidden talent and entertain the student body while raising money for Tri Sigma’s philanthropy.
Logan Statos is a freshman biology major who competed in the pageant to bring attention to and encourage support for Tri Sigma’s philanthropy. “It’s a great event and Tri Sigma always tries their hardest to raise money while making the event the best for everyone on campus,” Statos said. “It’s an interactive experience that everyone can enjoy even without participating as a contestant.”
Statos’ favorite part of the pageant was having a good time with the support of new friends. “I tried to perform a rap and it didn’t go so well, but it was a really fun experience. Even if you have a random talent, it’s always fun showing that,” Statos said. “Whether you did good or bad, there are still people there to support you no matter what. It’s a great way to build friends.”
This year, Bryce Juneau, a junior veterinary technology and biology major, won the title of Mr. March of Dimes. Juneau chose to participate to help support the March of Dimes’ cause and plans to spend the next year promoting the organization. “I was super excited when I won. It’s a great honor to have a title that represents such a worthy organization,” Juneau said.
Outside of the event’s fundraising, Mr. March of Dimes also provides entertainment to the students of NSU and allows them to have a good time by cheering on their peers. Macy Scott is a sophomore nursing major who helped pageant contestants practice their opening numbers and talents leading up to the event. “Mr. March of Dimes is so fun! Watching the guys perform their talents will definitely make you laugh and have the best night,” Scott said.
Mr. March of Dimes is so much more than just a pageant in which the men of NSU perform their talents to entertain their classmates. The event offers the opportunity to raise money for an honorable cause while still having a good time on campus.
