Golden Explosion is one of the largest annual events hosted by the Theta Chi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. This year’s event took place in Prather Coliseum on April 13, 2024.
TJ Woodard is a senior biology major who has enjoyed watching and working Golden Explosion for four years. “My favorite memory of Golden Explosion would be the months and months of preparation that it took to make the event successful,” Woodard said. “While it may have been tiresome at the moment, it was very rewarding to finally see all the hard work that we put into it come to fruition.”
The show, held near the end of each school year, showcases the talent of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The step show allows campus groups and organizations to come together to provide a fun and explosive night of entertainment for all of Natchitoches.
Woodard acknowledges how Golden Explosion allows organizations and communities to showcase their talent and culture. “Last year’s Golden Explosion was a very diverse showcase of different acts than what has normally been done at GX,” Woodard said, “In addition to having step teams from both universities and a local school, we also were able to invite Peabody Magnet High School Marching Band to come out and perform and donate to their program on behalf of the Chapter as well.”
Each competing fraternity or sorority has a chance to win $1000, awarded for the most energetic and lively performances. Golden Explosion often invites some middle school and high school teams, encouraging them to go out and leave lasting impacts on the community around them.
