Northwestern State University is enhancing both academic and social experiences for students and faculty in the upcoming year with the introduction of a new academic building. Alost Hall will serve as a replacement for Kyser, offering students and faculty a new place for learning and socialization.
Throughout the 2023 school year, those on NSU’s campus have been able to watch as progress is made toward finishing the new building. Jennifer Kelly is the executive director of university affairs at NSU and is following the building’s progress closely. “This was an 18-month building process, so we’re scheduled to finish late this summer after we move in furniture and other utilities that the building may need,” Kelly said.
The new building will house several different classes, academic departments and offices for staff, which will focus on both general education classes and courses for specific majors. “We will have a nursing skills lab for our nurse anesthesia program as well as for our registered nursing program. We’re also working on areas for our social work students, which will have interview rooms for counseling sessions,” Kelly said.
The addition of Alost Hall is exciting to many and raises hopes for students who will be able to attend classes in it. Lilly Hanks is a sophomore general studies major who is excited to see what the finished building will look like. “I think it’s great that we are getting a more modern building on campus and it will be nice to walk by on my way to classes once it is finished,” Hanks said.
Alost Hall is one of many new additions to campus that will hopefully spark positive changes for the NSU community. NSU’s president, James Genovese, is thrilled to be a part of the transformation that is coming to campus and is excited that this change begins with Alost Hall.
“I’m very proud to be the president of this university at a time where we’re going to be able to open the doors of Alost Hall,” Genovese said. “I want to praise the people that came before me to make this happen, like our prior president, Dr. Marcus Jones, and John Bell Edwards. So many people were involved in the planning and process of creating Alost Hall and I commend them for their hard work. It is going to create a shining star for Northwestern State University.”
