The College of Business and Technology at Northwestern State University allows students to study areas such as accounting, business, finance, hospitality management and tourism and computer information systems.
The college is designed for students who want to concentrate their future on business management or technology work. Curtis Penrod, the Director of the School of Business, has worked in this field since 2004 and finds inspiration from his time spent in college. “I enjoy working with students. One of my favorite times is when I get to see students graduate and go pursue their dreams after. Seeing students get jobs or pursue graduate degrees makes me feel like I have done my job,” Penrod said.
Mary Edith Stacy, the Dean of the College of Business and Technology, has also been working in the business field since graduating from college. Stacy was inspired to work in the field of business since her family worked in the industry and she was raised in a business environment. “My favorite part about working in the College of Business and Technology is that the students are eager to learn and the faculty is eager to help the students,” Stacy said.
The College of Business and Technology is primarily located within Russell Hall. This building is home to numerous computer labs and lecture halls that provide environments to foster learning, but business and technology majors are not the only students using these facilities.
Sharye Belcher, a sophomore nursing major, has had several of her classes held in Russell Hall. “It’s nice to have a few classes in Russell because it’s almost like a breath of fresh air, getting away from the traditional nursing buildings,” Belcher said. “I had one class last semester in one of the computer labs, which was fun since I had only ever had classes in lecture halls or labs until that point.”
The College of Business and Technology gives students a variety of career paths to choose from and the faculty are eager to assist students on their journeys. Computer labs in Russell Hall are available for all students to use and are typically open 24/7.
