The Creative and Performing Arts’ Theater and Dance program prepares students with various talents and skills to succeed in a competitive industry. The program offers opportunities for students to work summer jobs and perform throughout the school year.
Each year CAPA hosts a diversity of productions that create an inclusive atmosphere in the program and on campus. The theater program has hosted productions of “Goosebumps,” “Cosi Fan Tutte,” “Intimate Apparel,” “Destination Rock and Roll,” “Now. Here. This,” “12 Angry Jurors” and “Roosevelvis.” The dance program showcased their talents with special performances like “falling apart, falling together,” “Senior Dance Concert,” “Dancescapes,” and “Modern in Motion.”
Dylan Freeman is a sophomore double majoring in theater and dance. He enjoys bringing others entertainment and positivity by performing. Passionate about musical theater, Freeman loves expressing himself with a balance of dance and theater. “My favorite thing about dance is that it’s a very fun way to express yourself and be unique,” Freeman said. “With theater, I get to show a different side of me and just have fun.”
Freeman’s favorite part about being a part of the CAPA program is the positive atmosphere created by the professors and other classmates. “It’s a positive space. Everyone is friendly and uplifting. We recognize that we’re all on different journeys with our talent, so you don’t have to compare yourself to anyone,” Freeman said.
With every semester, the song and dance changes, but the supportive community of creative students and staff remains constant.
