The Alexandria, or CENLA, campus is one of Northwestern State University’s satellite campuses. It offers accredited face-to-face and online courses for students in the Central Louisiana region and provides clinical rotations for students across other campuses.
Alicia Books is the Director of the CENLA campus College of Nursing and School of Allied Health. She has been a nurse educator for 20 years and has worked at the CENLA campus for over nine years. “What I love most about the culture on the CENLA campus is that I am able to still join NSU faculty for opportunities and events on main campus, but then also come back to CENLA where I know our students and have a connection with them as they progress through our programs,” Books said.
Dennis Flynn is a first-level coordinator and assistant professor in the BSN program. This is his first year working on the CENLA campus and is excited to see the campus grow. Flynn found his desire to teach from several impactful instructors and hopes to have the same impact on his students. “Students need support and guidance to be successful. I like being a part of that,” Flynn said.
Katrina Seymore is a first-level coordinator and assistant professor in the ASN program. This is her second year working on the CENLA campus and she values connecting with students and the community around her. “I want my students to feel like they receive the same instruction as any other campus. They matter and we value their education,” Seymore said.
Kirsten Williams is a sophomore radiology major who plans to continue her education to study sonography. “My favorite memory was just getting close with my peers. It’s easy to connect with each and every one of them because there’s not many of us at that location,” Williams said.
Annie Broadway is a sophomore radiology major who chose this major because it’s a balance of science and helping others. “I want to grow as a person and grow into myself. I have learned to prioritize self-care, but also I learned how important friendships are to have and how important it is to have a support system around you,” Broadway said.
Kayla Fee is a sophomore nursing major and chairman of the Central Campus Council. She enjoys the quaint size of the Alexandria campus and is eager to start preparing campus events to bring everyone together. “Alexandria residents can really look forward to this school year,” Fee said.
Though it may be small, the Alexandria campus offers just as many opportunities as NSU’s main campus, always prioritizing its students’ education and ensuring they grow into strong, independent and intelligent young adults.
