Northwestern State University’s Leesville campus has an intimate size that supports a diverse community of students. This satellite campus provides higher education to active military, veterans and many others.
Brittany Poindexter is a junior nursing major who started college as an active military member and became a veteran last year. Poindexter’s love for helping others led her to pursue higher education at Leesville to continue serving her country. “I never would have been able to go to college if Leesville didn’t work with me. They work with your military leadership because they want you to succeed,” Poindexter said.
Poindexter also loves how supportive the faculty and staff are. “They are amazing teachers that are there to help us and be our counselors,” Poindexter said.
Cynthia McDonald is an assistant professor in the College of Nursing and Allied Health and this is her first semester at the Leesville campus. McDonald’s favorite part of Leesville is the people she gets to work with and meet during her time. “We’re a really close-knit group and everyone supports one another,” McDonald said.
The friendly atmosphere of the satellite campus has aided McDonald on her new teaching journey. “It’s giving me an opportunity to learn at a slower pace,” McDonald said.
NSU’s Leesville campus creates an environment of growth and success for students from all walks of life. The smaller class sizes offer a personal connection between other students and teachers, creating channels of support throughout the college.
