With sparkling uniforms and dance moves that have been capturing audiences’ attention for decades, Northwestern State University’s Purple Pizzazz Pom Line is one of the school’s numerous spirit groups that provide entertainment and high-energy performances to students and other spectators each year.
Being a member of Pom Line is not an easy feat, with work being done day in and day out to give the best performances possible in any event they attend. Nyah Lynch is a junior dance major who loves how Pom Line pushes her to improve. “Pom Line is challenging, exciting and rewarding,” Lynch said.
Pom Line is known for their various performances at football games, parades, homecoming and other events that occur throughout the year. Faith Miller, a junior biology major, is excited for the team to participate in the 2024 fall homecoming festivities. “As a student who participated in homecoming last year without being on the team, it’s more exciting because I’m actually performing in front of bigger crowds with everyone there,” Miller said.
Another event that Pom Line members look forward to is the Demons Come Out at Night Pep Rally. It is one of the first events of the school year that allows the team to show off what they’ve been working on and set the energy for the upcoming football season.
Though performances and the rewarding feeling of completing them are a main focus for the team, being a part of the organization also promotes growth for its members. Kameryn McKinney is a sophomore health and exercise major who wants to work in physical therapy after college. McKinney is very proud of where she stands today regarding who she is and her interactions with the NSU community. “Pom Line has helped me gain self-confidence and find a place on campus,” McKinney said. “I’ve been able to get to know the community and know those around me that support what we do for our school’s experience.”
NSU’s Pom Line is a spirit organization that many students don’t want to miss. By performing at home games and other events at NSU and within the community, there are plenty of opportunities for students to see the Pom Line.
