The women’s track and field team at Northwestern State University celebrated winning both indoor and outdoor championships in the summer of 2024. The team also triumphed in breaking the program record at the Stan Scott Invite and Multis in the 4×400 relay.
Jessica Pitcher is a junior psychology major who discovered her love for track at 12 years old and has been running ever since. Her favorite part about track is seeing her improvement after running hurdles. “When you’re on a college sports team you see mental and physical growth and maturity,” Pitcher said.
Victoria Byrd is a junior health and exercise science major who hopes to continue working with athletes in physical therapy. She started track and field in seventh grade and now runs the long and triple jump and the 4×400 relay. “Track and field has made me patient because it takes time to improve,” Byrd said. “Just always trust the process and believe in yourself.”
Briana Green is a sophomore psychology major who has enjoyed running for as long as she can remember. This is her first year running hurdles for NSU’s track and field team. “My favorite thing is the team atmosphere and the coaches because everybody cares about one another,” Green said.
NSU’s women’s track and field team is a community of athletes who have spent years of dedication to the sport and have fostered an undeniable passion for running.
