Founded in 1997, Alpha Omicron Pi is an organization for students at Northwestern State University where they can have fun, build a sisterhood and make memories that last forever. Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on four pillars: character, dignity, scholarship and college loyalty.
Kayden Larkins, a junior psychology major, is the Vice President of Membership Integrity for the Kappa Chi chapter. Larkins handles internal situations and upholds the standards of their chapter. “We encourage personal and academic growth and value genuine connections between our sisters,” Larkins said.
Throughout the year, Alpha Omicron Pi helps raise awareness for juvenile arthritis and supports those dedicated to treating it. Fundraisers and philanthropy events help raise money to donate to the Arthritis Foundation for research and juvenile arthritis camps.
Kayla Matherne is a junior nursing psychology and nursing major who also has arthritis. “Finding a place that helps support kids that are going through the same thing I did is something that touched me,” Matherne said. “I hope that through our support we can make a difference for kids and help them see that they are not alone.”
Alpha Omicron Pi is more than just a sorority. It is a support system, a home and a sisterhood for so many young women. No matter what, the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi support one another, whether a sister needs a shoulder to cry on, a laugh to make them smile or an understanding listener.
Katielyn Murray is a junior business administration major who has been a part of Alpha Omicron Pi since her freshman year. “I like being a part of such a loving organization. I love supporting my sisters and helping whenever I can. I can also depend on my sisters. We create such strong bonds with each of us that will last us forever,” Murray said.
Alpha Omicron Pi is an organization for students at NSU that offers a home, a support system, a family and a sisterhood to those in need.
