Kappa Alpha Order’s Gamma Phi chapter is Northwestern State University’s division of the “Modern Gentlemen.” Founded in Lexington, VA in 1865, the fraternity’s motto is “Dieu et Les Dames,” which is French for “God and the Ladies.” The motto is meant to inspire members to have reverence for God and women. Their values of reverence, gentility, knowledge, leadership, brotherhood and excellence are demonstrated in their care for the women around them and in their disabled veterans program.
Izik Lentz is a junior health and exercise science major who has been invested in the brotherhood his entire college career. Lentz’s first year as chapter president has shown him how important older members of the chapter are to building a strong brotherhood. “My favorite memory of this year has been living in the house over the summer with my fraternity big brother and my fraternity little brother,” Lentz said.
Zach Wilkinson is a sophomore nursing major in his second year with the brotherhood and first year as chapter treasurer. Wilkinson’s family is full of veterans, his grandfathers fought in Vietnam and Japan. The fraternity’s fundraisers allow him to give back to veterans as a college student. “The friends that I’ve made in the fraternity support me more than most on this educational journey that I’m on right now, and it’s nice to build a connection that I would not have had otherwise,” Wilkinson said.
James Boline is a senior criminal justice major who joined the fraternity during his freshman year. The excellence of the fraternity has allowed Boline to gain higher standards for himself by stepping out of his shell and making new friends along the way. “It’s a support system and I know, no matter what happens, that I can call one of my brothers and they’d be there,” Boline said.
Kappa Alpha Order strives to bring gentlemen together as brothers for life to not only support and encourage each other but be chivalrous and welcoming to all.
