Following tough losses, Lady Demons look to a weekend at home

The Lady Demons were unable to pick up a win over the weekend as conference play continued, losing to McNeese 0-4 and Lamar 0-1. Both games were on the road, but the Lady Demons return home this weekend to face UIW on Friday (9/28) and Abilene Christian on Sunday (9/30). Senior Forward Brittany Caserma believes their offense has been playing well, and if they keep it up, the team has a chance to win both games.

“Offensively we are doing amazing and we are able to make a lot of goals. Everybody is doing great,” Caserma said. “We have a lot of talent up top this year, so as long as we come together and work off one another, we should be able to do well this weekend.”

Caserma knows it’s going take more than offense to win games and get them over the hump. She wants the team to work harder than the other teams, and put more effort into practice and on the field during game days.

“It’s going take getting to those 50/50 balls, and wanting to work harder than the other team,” said Casmera. “I think the effort was definitely there this weekend. I think in these tight conference games, it’s going to come down to who wants to win more.”

The Lady Demons have been doing a good job on defense, holding teams to a few shots a game. Freshmen defender Kalee Williams believes that the team has been improving each game on defense, and having veteran players that have her back makes a difference.

“I definitely think it has gotten better since the first few games, especially with being a freshman in a center back position,” said Williams. We have been working on specific things in practice, so I definitely think that as a backline we have gotten stronger, and we are getting better each game. I believe we are going to win this weekend.”

“Co-Head Coach Jess Jobe has a lot of trust in his defense, and believes they have been proving themselves week after week.

Jobe knows he can trust the defense to have each other’s backs, and that they will continue to grow together.

“We stuck with a core group on Friday night and didn’t make chance back there. We’ve leaned heavily on that group before, and they’ve been proving themselves week after week,” said Jobe. “They done a great job with being connected, covering and sliding with one another so if one gets beat or gives something up, there’s another body right there to take it on. That’s the biggest thing, they are learning to play as a group. That is what is going lead to more wins.”
