Student attacked at UP2 parking lot

By Leanna Coy and Jacob Bennett.

A student was attacked Thursday in the University Place II parking lot. The student was exiting Iberville Dining Hall when a stranger walked up behind him.

“I noticed someone walking close behind me, so I moved to get out of their way and before I knew it, I saw a fist hit my eye,” the victim said. “I got six stitches in my right eyebrow and a black eye, bruises all over my right side of the face and back of my head and a big scrape on my knee.”

The attack happened around noon. Witnesses took the victim to the police station to file a report. Henry Edward James Hall, the suspect, who does not attend Northwestern, was later arrested and charged with second degree battery, and is currently being held at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.

“The safety of students is our highest concern,” said NSU President Chris Maggio. “It is paramount.”

Craig Vercher, campus chief of police, said students should feel safe at NSU.

“This was an isolated incident,” Vercher said. “No one in our community has anything to be concerned of.”

The incident is still undergoing investigation.
