After receiving a grant from the Weyerhaeuser family, NSU’s track and field complex has received multiple upgrades with more to come.

Demon News reported that the NSU Demons Unlimited Foundation received the $18,000 grant, and it has been used to pay for some of the renovations.

Mike Doty, director of facilities, said the most noticeable changes included the construction of a new press box and improved stands.

He said the press box still needs internet and power connected to it. A wheelchair ramp has also been added.

Yannik Gerland, sophomore, is a distance runner for track and field. He said he thinks having the new press box and stands will be nice.

“It was time for a little change, but I still hope that more changes will be done,” Gerland said.

Track and Field Head Coach Mike Heimerman said although the main renovations have been completed, there will still be more changes taking place. A few worn-down spots on the long jump area and the track will soon be resurfaced.

Heimerman said replacements to the wood on the tracks’ pavilion are coming as well. Heimerman said the track team has been excited about the renovations to the field.

“It shows the athletes that they’re appreciated,” Heimerman said.
