NSU and LSU showdown delayed until March 12

The Demons Baseball game against the LSU Tigers, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 20, has been delayed due to inclement weather. The home-opener will instead be played on March 12 at Brown-Stroud Field at 6 p.m.

It will be the first game against the Tigers in Natchitoches since the 2014 season.

Head Coach Bobby Barbier said he thinks the Demons will compete well.

“I think it’ll be nice to have them at home. I think that’s going to hopefully play in our favor,” said Barbier.

Barbier added that unlike football, the baseball team is preparing to play a game more so than preparing to play an opponent.

The Demons ended last season with a 38-24 record and went 18- 12 in Southland Conference games.

Paul D. Mainieri, LSU’s head coach, said the Tigers are expecting another great game against NSU. The teams last faced each other at the NCAA Regionals in Corvallis, Oregon, last June where the Tigers beat the Demons 9-5.

“Northwestern played great last year as they are extremely well coached and have some very good baseball players,” said Mainieri. He added that he would not be surprised if both teams faced off at another NCAA Regionals.

Mainieri said the Tigers are mentally ready to go against the Demons and thinks it will be a tough game.

“It seems we always have hard-fought games with Northwestern State,” said Mainieri.

Students may attend for free. Regular seating for adults and children ages 3-12 is $25, and children under two get in free.
