NSU bridges a gap between students and Chick-fil-A

A crosswalk is being added between the Northwestern State University Marketplace and Watson Memorial Library to make access to Chick-fil-A easier and safer for pedestrians.

The high number of cars on University Parkway makes the spot a difficult place for students to cross the road safely. After the recent addition of Chick-fil-A to the marketplace, more students are crossing University Parkway than before.

Drake Owens, assistant vice president for external affairs, said the crosswalk is being added for the safety of pedestrians getting to the NSU Marketplace. Although traffic on University Parkway will be slowed down while students are crossing, Owens said there are details being worked out to make sure the crosswalk does not get traffic too backed up.

Owens said students can expect to see the crosswalk “pretty soon.” “Our goal is within the next two months,” he said. Despite any traffic concerns, students have said they think the crosswalk will be a positive improvement. Dany Racero, a student worker at Chick-fil-A, said he thinks the crosswalk is a good idea.

Quint Dejean, sophomore, said he agrees that the crosswalk is necessary. He said he has almost been hit by a car before while he was trying to cross the street to Chick-fil-A.

“A crosswalk would make it easier for me to get my coffee and Chick-fil-A in the morning,” Dejean said.
