NSU’s Student Government Association is sponsoring V. L. Roy Service Day on March 23 as a way for students to give back to the community.

Virginia Falgoust, senior accounting and business administration major, is the V. L. Roy Service Day chair. Falgoust said the event is in honor of V. L. Roy, NSU’s president at the time the Student Government Association was founded on campus.

This year, Falgoust said the Student Government Association is partnering with the Greek community as well as NSU students to host the event.

“We want to show our thanks and appreciation for what this community provides for our students and the blessings we have,” Falgoust said.

Jacob Ellis, student body president, said there will be multiple clean-up projects taking place both on and off campus. Ellis said students can get involved with the service day by signing up with a link that will be emailed out.

“We are very excited about this event and hope that students will come out and help beautify our campus and our city,” Ellis said.

Leann Wills, sophomore business administration major, is on the service day committee. Wills said most of the projects on campus will include gardening or cleaning. There will also be a tri-fold beautification project at the alumni center. Wills said potential off-campus projects include volunteering at Hope for Paws, the American Cemetery and Keep Natchitoches Beautiful.

The V. L. Roy Service Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning with registration and breakfast at Organizational Row.
