Hey Vic! Prior to coming to NSU this semester, I’ve never shared a room with ANYONE. Do you have any tips on how to get used to having a roommate and dealing with conflict?
Here are a few tips that should help with the process of adjusting to having a roommate.
- Get to know your roommate. Don’t go the entire semester without genuinely getting to know your roommate. It’s easier to live with someone when you feel comfortable around them. What better way to do so than to get to know them?
- Communicate with your roommate. Communication is a vital key in any relationship. When you’re able to communicate, it makes resolving conflict a bit easier.
- Establish boundaries. Once you set boundaries with each other, you’re able to avoid conflict. When you know what bothers each other, you figure out things that you should and shouldn’t do.
- Make time in your schedule to check on your roommate. Your roommate may get homesick, so they will look to you to help make the dorm feel like home. Be there for them!
