NSU’s chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity is under investigation for hazing allegations.

“It has been under investigation by university police since Sept. 26, and we are awaiting their report,” Director of Greek Life Shayne Creppel said.

University President Dr. Chris Maggio confirmed the investigation.

A spokesperson for the national Sigma Nu organization said it would issue a statement, but The Current Sauce did not receive one by deadline.

“We’re following our procedures and policies and are currently waiting for university police to wrap up with the report,” Dean of Students Frances Conine said. “We’ve done everything that the new law tells us we have to do. The new Max Gruver Law really raises the bar of how universities in Louisiana handle hazing cases.”

In 2018, the Louisiana state legislature enacted the Max Gruver Law, which redefined hazing, strengthened the penalties and clarified who can be held responsible.
