Whether one is new to the campus or a senior about to earn their degree, attending sporting events in the fall can be a way to show your Demon pride.
Northwestern State University of Louisiana holds a wide variety of football, soccer and volleyball games which students can attend during the fall. The cross country team competes during this season, but all of their meets are away.
Scott Maggio, assistant athletic director for development and corporate sponsorships, explained that full-time students have easy access to these events.
“Every NSU athletic event is free,” Maggio said. “All you need to do is bring your student ID, and you will get into every game for free.”
Maggio encouraged students to support student-athletes by attending these events.
“I just would encourage all of our students to bring one friend with you to every sporting event, and let those events continue to grow every week,” Maggio said. “The more students we have there, the more fun it is for everyone, and we want to fill the stands as much as possible for every event.”
According to Maggio, the number of students attendees varies depending on what sport it is, but typically football is the most popular fall sport.
“It depends on what else is going on campus during that day; however, we would love for all students to attend all of our events as much as they can,” he said. “The more students that are there can make for a fun and exciting environment for all of our teams.”
He explained the importance of supporting athletics.
“Our students can make a massive impact on the game each week by how loud they are during the games,” Maggio said.
Darrick Jasmine, freshman dance major, is enthused about the upcoming volleyball season.
“I really love the sport,” Jasmine said. “I had a blast going to games in high school.”
Travon Melbert, freshman with a major in dance, explained he is ready for football season to kick off.
“I love cheering on my school and how competitive the sport is,” Melbert said.
All students at NSU can share their demon spirit with easy access to these events by cheering on their fellow students in their respective sports.
