Demon Fest is an annual music festival that celebrated its 10th year at Northwestern State University. Every spring, students gather to participate in activities and enjoy live music coordinated by KNWD, the campus’s radio station, and the University Programming Council (UPC). This year, headlining artist Alicia Creti was followed by GoDJ Static Shock, DJ G Soul, Josh Scott and Rori, who performed as the activities came to a close.
Edward Hernandez, a junior communication major, served as KNWD’s program director during Demon Fest. Hernandez emphasized KNWD’s care and concern for the performing artists. “It was a big decision to conclude the activities so we have more time to enjoy the artist,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez recognizes this year’s Demon Fest as “one of the best” and is excited to continue working with KNWD. “It was very refreshing to be there and see everything I’ve been a part of,” Hernandez said. “It was great to be a part of it and I’m very proud of my team.”
Avery Myers is a sophomore biology and microbiology major who attended Demon Fest for her second year. Myers loves music and stood in the front row for an experience of a lifetime. “A lot of people don’t get to experience that at bigger concerts, so standing at the railing and being that close to the artists was really cool, and their interactions were really personal,” Myers said.
Demon Fest is a mixing pot of artists that not only brings students together but also allows them to discover new music. “My favorite part was hearing Alicia Creti sing. I’ve never heard of her before Demon Fest, but she’s one of my new favorite Spotify artists,” Myers said.
Chris James is a senior communication major, and while this is his first year in KNWD, it was his second year attending Demon Fest. James was excited to help plan and execute the festival for his fellow students. “It was a cool and unique experience to put the festival together for other people,” James said.
James’s fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., was invited to perform alongside a brother artist, Josh Scott. “I think it’s made us a lot closer,” James said. “It’s not like a typical event—you’re getting to experience artists right in front of you.”
Demon Fest unites students each year with music, fun and friendship. KNWD and UPC worked together to bring a special and unique experience to students, just when they needed a break from their spring semesters the most.
