Northwestern State University has several campuses across Louisiana, offering students educational opportunities beyond one location. The Alexandria campus is one of NSU’s satellite campuses that provides students with the chance to get their education either closer to home or in a more personal setting.
Tavon Anderson, a junior radiology major, had many reasons to choose NSU’s satellite location. “It is very hands-on here. I have a close connection with all of my professors, and I cherish that because it gives you a better stepping stone in getting ahead in the program. I can email my teachers at any time of the day and they will respond, which really helps me with time management,” Anderson said.
The size of the Alexandria campus also offers an increased focus on helping students with schoolwork. “I love being on a smaller campus because you get to have that one-on-one contact with your professors and get extra help whenever you need it,” Anderson said. Having a personal relationship with the professors can make a difference in how students perform in the classroom.
Alexandria also offers an array of organizations on campus. “We have an organization called CARS, where we do a lot of fundraising events and get some profit back to help with scrubs, shoes and things like that,” Anderson said. Organizations like CARS not only ease financial burden but also create a sense of community and support among students in the program.
Having a community to depend on in college that combines friendships and good professors is a foundation for success. Madison Daigle, a junior radiology major, had an easy time making friends on the Alexandria campus. “I love the smaller communities here. I have already made a couple of friends, and being in a smaller place just makes it so much easier,” Daigle said.
The Alexandria campus has also been recently renovated to be better suited for students and their needs. Adriana Hernandez is a junior radiology major who appreciates the renovations. “They have renovated the buildings because it used to be a part of the England Airpark. They fixed it up so it is a lot more inviting, and overall, the environment is better. Even the drive to get to the campus is nice,” Hernandez said.
Avery Coffman, a junior radiology major, has made amazing memories at the Alexandria campus. “After last semester, we all got Texas Roadhouse and brought it back to campus after our last final. We all just went out and had a good time together, and I really enjoyed that,” Coffman said. Moments like these emphasize how the Alexandria campus is more than just a place to learn—it’s a community where memories are made.
The Alexandria campus is a growing community that provides students with a smaller, more personal learning and social environment. Giving students a place to learn and grow while also remaining close to home, Alexandria offers a path to a better future that is both supportive and attainable.
