Northwestern State University’s Student Government Association hosted Late Night Breakfast at Iberville Dining Hall to provide students with an outlet to unwind during the fall semester’s finals week and give them the boost to keep going. Events like Late Night Breakfast are meant to remind students that even during the most stressful times of the semester, they are supported and valued, and are not facing finals week alone.
Finals week is a challenging time for most students, and Late Night Breakfast is a way for NSU to emphasize community, fun and taking care of the student body. Thomas Perryman, a junior history major and membership director of the University Programming Council, reflected on what Late Night Breakfast symbolizes in the relationship between NSU and the student community.
“I think these events speak volumes about how much NSU cares about the students. They are providing something for the student body to attend, and we care deeply about our students. Finals week is meant to be hard, stressful and challenging, but at the end of the day, there are things in place like Late Night Breakfast that help you take a step back from all of it,” Perryman said.
Students coming together for one purpose also offers them a comfortable environment to meet new people on campus. Reese Kennedy, a sophomore physical science major, discussed how Late Night Breakfast contributes to the overall community at NSU. “People from tons of different RSOs come to Late Night Breakfast, so it’s really cool to have everyone in one spot. It’s definitely an opportunity to meet new people and make connections with mutual friends,” Kennedy said.
In the midst of finals preparation, Avery Myers, a senior biology and microbiology major, described Late Night Breakfast as a refreshing pause from the intensity of exam week. “I think it is a great reset for students,” Myers said. “During finals week, you are really on your grind, doing all of this work, and you are tired. Then, here is an event where you can just completely forget about all of it for a second and enjoy the moment.”
“I also think that it is an important thing that students can take into exams, because their minds are fresh and ready to get back to studying,” Myers said.
Events like Late Night Breakfast serve as a reminder to students of NSU’s commitment to supporting them beyond the classroom. By offering a space for relaxation, connection and encouragement during one of the most demanding weeks of the semester, NSU reinforces a sense of community and care that helps students feel prepared to finish finals week.
