Mr. NSU Tre Nelson and Mrs. NSU Abby Hinds lead this year’s Homecoming Honor Court, a group of students recognized for their academic achievement through student voting.

“I am excited I get to show all students [as Mr. NSU that] they can do whatever they put their minds to as long as they practice hard work and dedication,” Nelson said.

Homecoming Honor Court Queen is Mallory McConanthy and King is Antavious Roberson. Other members include Rebekah Aultman, Noah Baudoin, Rowdy Burleson, Cylandria Clemons, Kennedy Cullen, Lydia Doucet, Ashley Fortenberry, Marquise Foster, Olivia Guidry, Hunter Horton, Alyssa Jacobs, Kenedy Lampert, Dedrick Lewis, Kendrick Payne, Michael Phelps, Jasmine Roberts, Trey Roberts, Ryan Wright and Taylor Wright.

Northwestern State’s Homecoming 2017 celebration features a retro theme, taking inspiration from the 1980s, ’90s and ’00s.

Organized by the Student Activities Board and NSU Alumni Association, homecoming weekend will kick off Oct. 20 with the annual golf tournament at the NSU Rec Complex followed by the evening parade.

The parade, running a different route this year due to construction on Front Street, will begin on campus at Central Avenue. The route will go west on University Parkway and then south on Tarlton Drive, concluding at Prather Coliseum. The pep rally will follow immediately at Collins Pavilion.

“The parade is my favorite event because it gives all groups an opportunity to showcase their talents while bringing together NSU students and the Natchitoches community,” Nelson said.

Alumni activities are also planned for Oct. 20. Meet-ups at different Natchitoches locations are categorized by graduation decade. Those who graduated in the ’60s and ’70s meet at Mayeaux’s, ’80s at Maglieaux’s, ’90s at Mama’s, ’00s at the Landing and 2010-2017 at Pioneer Pub.

Saturday activities will launch at 9 a.m. with the Homecoming Alumni Breakfast and Bingo at Collins Pavilion and continue throughout the day with events such as the N Club Hall of Fame Induction, Morrison Open House for Scholars’ College and the College of Business Reception.

Tailgating will begin at 2 p.m. and feature live music by 92twenty, a self-proclaimed “party band” that covers rock, country and top 40 hits. The tailgate area will also have a photo booth, vendors, games and food.

The football game against the University of Central Arkansas will kick off at 6 p.m.
