For many people, Halloween weekend is a time for dressing up, eating candy and watching scary movies. For the city of New Orleans, however, it is more than that with an added musical twist.

The 19th annual Voodoo Music + Arts Experience will take place Oct. 27-29 in downtown New Orleans. The festival brings in over one million people to City Park annually and is the second largest event in New Orleans next to the Jazz and Heritage Festival.

This year’s headliners are Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters and The Killers. Additional acts include Cold War Kids, LCD Soundsystem, The Head and The Heart and Post Malone.

Sophomore nursing major Emily LaRosee is looking forward to attending Voodoo for the first time. She said she set aside a portion of each paycheck during her summer job to pay for her ticket.

“I wanted to attend because it is something I’ve never done before,” she said. “When I found out Post Malone was going to be there, I knew I had to go.”

The three-day festival, which the official website refers to as “a musical gumbo,” features over 65 performers and offers food, interactive artwork and various vendors and activities. Many festivalgoers choose to attend in costume since the festival is during Halloween weekend.

New Orleans Online recommends using public transportation and taking advantage of discounted rates offered at local hotels.

The official festival website offers a glimpse into all artists, vendors and accommodations offered during the weekend, as well as a map of the festival grounds. Tickets are available for the entire weekend or by day at the general admission, VIP or platinum level. More information is available at voodoofestival.com
