Baseball looks to continue win streak

The NSU Demon Baseball team has continued to have a successful season over the last few weeks, with an overall winning record.

“We’ve been very steady this season,” Head Coach Bobby Barbier said. “That’s exactly what we want; we want to have a consistent team.”

In their series against Stephen F. Austin University April 6-8, the Demons won two out of three games — a feat that came after having to postpone several times due to inclement weather.

“Unfortunately, you can’t simulate a lot of things like that in practice—things like losing a game or changes in weather,” Barbier said. “We can only learn through experience but I’m pleased with how the team has managed to continue to do well even when faced with unexpected challenges.”

The Demons celebrated another victory April 10 as they won against Lamar University with a final score of 15-3. According to NSU Demon Athletics, this game brought the Demons to a season-high of 16 hits with infielder Luke Watson becoming the first Demon to score four runs in a game this season.

Senior right-handed pitcher Dan Hlad is another player who has been particularly successful this year.

“My first year, I was a little naïve,” Hlad said. “I knew I had to work and keep developing. I just want to go out there, throw well and give our team the best chance to win.”

The team saw yet another game postponed due to weather in its series opener against Southeastern University on April 13. Originally scheduled to begin Friday, the opening game was moved to Saturday where the Demons competed in a double-header.

The Demons take on University of Arkansas Little Rock next at Brown-Stroud Field April 18 at 6 p.m. A full schedule can be found online at nsudemons.com
