The Northwestern State University Lady Demon Basketball team is approaching this upcoming season with renewed confidence and a sense of unity. The Lady Demons are building on lessons learned from the previous season and are focused on growth both on the court and among the players.
With a new season comes a new team. Joceline Geara, a sophomore business administration major, talked about the biggest differences between this year’s team and the previous year. “This team is different in a positive way. Last year gave us a valuable experience to learn from, and it has allowed players to step up into their roles more confidently. We’re coming together to build off of what the players before us did for the program,” Geara said.
Tiara Abron, a senior general studies major, highlighted the lessons learned from the previous season that they want to carry into this year. “We learned the importance of consistency, communication and trusting each other. Those lessons shaped our preparation and accountability this season,” Abron said.
As this year’s team continues to learn from one another and works to improve, they have set their goals for the season. Vernell Atamah, a sophomore health and human science major, elaborated on these aims. “Through the ups and downs, our team always sticks together. Whatever we may go through, we go through it together. We’re focused on playing hard for the whole 40 minutes and ultimately winning a championship,” Atamah said.
As the season continues, the Lady Demons remain focused on competing and building on the foundation established by previous teams. The team’s goal is to stay consistent, support one another and compete for a championship.
