LitCon to bring artists, cosplay contest

NSU’s Department of English, Foreign Language, and Cultural Studies will host its second annual LitCon March 21 in Orville J. Hanchey Gallery.

LitCon, organized by Instructor Oona Zbitkovskis, is a literary convention for the humanities community to gather on campus and explore how these disciplines fit in with each other. Different fields – such as English, theater, music and art – come together to demonstrate their importance.

“My hope that if someone comes to LitCon … they may see what is happening at NSU, how the humanities work together and opportunities for growth,” Zbitkovskis said.

Writers, artists and illustrators will have tables for display. Booths from the Natchitoches Parish Library and other organizations across campus and the Natchitoches community will be present.

The first panels start at 9 a.m., each lasting one hour. At 12:30 p.m., the NSU Theatre troupe “Modern in Motion” will perform.

From 1-4 p.m., professionals will hold Q&A sessions discussing publishing, filmmaking, and students groups including Argus and Brainy Acts Poetry Society will be present.

LitCon will close with a literary cosplay contest. Winners will receive a trophy and certificate.

“College is a time where you should be testing the water and pressing yourself to do things … outside of your comfort zone,” Zbitkovskis said. “If you don’t even know that these opportunities exist, then how do you do that?”

Doors open on March 21 at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.
