Founded in January 1899, Tau Kappa Epsilon is a fraternity built on the values of character and personal worth. Through acts of community service, campus activities and personal drive, the members of Tau Kappa Epsilon live through these values and strive to make positive impacts in their communities.
When Northwestern State University’s chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was established, it became a part of a nationwide brotherhood that has accumulated 290 chapters. Since then, the chapter has produced notable alumni, including NSU president James Genovese, who have inspired present leaders.
William Wilson, a sophomore criminal justice major, serves as the president of Tau Kappa Epsilon and has a personal connection to the fraternity’s philanthropy, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. “The philanthropy impacts me because I’ve had family members that have had cancer, and it’s a disease that I really despise.” Wilson said. “I really like helping the kids. We raise money for St. Jude’s every year in different philanthropic fundraisers, and we try to throw events where anybody can come and have fun.”
Tau Kappa Epsilon’s values consist of Love, Charity and Esteem, with beliefs stemming in character, service and leadership.
Chance Howard, a sophomore computer informational systems major, joined the brotherhood for the connection to others. “TKE has given me a great group of guys to work with every day,” Howard said. “TKE has changed me. It’s made me a more open person and friendlier than I was before I joined.”
Serving as a light on campus, Tau Kappa Epsilon encourages its members to be the best versions of themselves.
Cameron Hensin, a sophomore criminal justice major, has been forced outside of his comfort zone by becoming a member. “The fraternity has changed me as a person by making me more out there because in high school I used to be a kid that just stayed to himself,” Hensin said. “I didn’t really talk to anybody, but now I’m more willing to talk to people.”
As the fraternity’s membership and campus involvement grows, Tau Kappa Epsilon continues to thrive in the brotherhood of Greek life.
