Alpha Omicron Pi is a sorority offered at Northwestern State University. While AOII is one of the many sororities on NSU’s campus, it has characteristics that make it a unique group of women who are involved in their community and stand for more than just themselves. Their house is located on campus and provides its members with opportunities to grow and experience the benefits of Greek life.
When choosing which sorority to call home, it’s important to consider which one makes a student feel most at home and aligns with their values. Jane Thompson, a freshman health and exercise science major, is a new initiate who chose to join AOII because she liked what they stood for.
“I chose AOII because it is where I felt most at home. Even before I rushed, I had my eye on AOII, not only because of philanthropy, but also because of their main values. Inspiration, ambition, scholarship and balancing are all the things that they value that drew me in,” Thompson said.
Caitlin White, a sophomore secondary education major, has learned a lot about herself through her years in the sorority. “AOII itself has helped me come out of a shell that I didn’t know I had. I am a very talkative person, and I love talking to people that I know—even people that I don’t know. This is something that I didn’t know about myself before joining AOII,” White said.
Philanthropy plays a huge part in how fraternities and sororities serve their communities, and AOII does this by supporting the Arthritis Foundation. Making a difference in the world is what AOII strives to do, and they have new plans to further that goal in the upcoming year. Dana Tatum, a senior business administration major and vice president of operations for AOII, detailed the changes.
“We are planning to travel next summer to Camp Mash, a camp for kids with arthritis, because we want to continue to make a difference in their lives,” Tatum said.
Tatum’s enthusiasm reflects the chapter’s commitment to growth, leadership and long-lasting sisterhood. “I am excited to see the chapter grow and welcome more members who embody our sisterhood. I’m also excited to see our upcoming executive team lead the chapter and bring fresh ideas,” Tatum said.
Alpha Omicron Pi continues to make a difference at NSU by focusing on service, sisterhood and personal growth. The women of AOII aren’t just part of a sorority—they are a family that supports each other, takes on new challenges and works to make a positive impact on the campus and community.
