The Inferno station in Iberville offers a customized experience for students.

This semester, Sodexo brought a new option for students at Iberville Dining hall. After accessing the feedback of Northwestern State University of Louisiana students, the dining hall welcomes their newest station The Inferno.

The Inferno, an interchangeable and customizable food station at Iberville Dining Hall, offers students a new option to their dining experience. For the first week it was open, the station set up a macaroni bar with customizable toppings. The following week, the station offered customizable baked potatoes or “spuds.”

“I think it’s a cool idea because it gives people the opportunity to customize their
own unique thing instead of the regular burgers and other options that Iberville offers,” Haivein Thomas, a freshman with a major in early education, said.

The default unlimited meal plan at NSU that freshmen are required to get gives students access to Iberville up to two times for each meal period each day. However, many students avoid going to Iberville because the food is mostly pre-made and harder to customize. The Inferno station gives students the opportunity to uniquely customize and personalize their meals according to their personal preferences.

“From my experience, the spud bar was very well done; I really enjoyed the many toppings to choose from and the different kinds of potatoes,” Oliver Turner, a freshman with a major in fine and graphic arts, said. “I also think it provides a very nice option for our vegan friends on campus.”

The Inferno station helps offer options for students who don’t eat certain foods due to reasons such as pickiness, religion or a vegan or vegetarian diet.

“Campus dining hasn’t been this good before. Now, it actually might be worth it for people to come eat there who usually don’t,” Lawson Turner, junior communication major, said. “Also, they have to keep bringing back the ramen bar.”

Because of The Inferno, more people are attracted to eat in Iberville. Even upperclassmen, who aren’t required to have the unlimited meal plan, are interested in trying the station even if they have to spend their Demon Dollars, also known as their declining balance.

The Inferno brings new experiences to the table for students. While the option changes every week, students can suggest what they would like to see next by scanning the QR code next to the station.
